Catherine Devaney Marriage Counselor in Cape Girardeau

Catherine Devaney is an experienced Marriage Counselor and Couples Counselor.  She works with couples to regain trust in their relationships, develop better communication skills, and develop more positive ways of dealing with relationship conflicts.  She has training in Gottman Couples Therapy, a time-tested, proven approach to strengthening and improving relationships.

The Gottman Method of Marriage Counseling is based on several key principles developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman.  As a Marriage Counselor using the Gottman Method, Catherine’s sessions focus on developing trust and commitment between partners.  Gottman Marriage Counselors help clients see their marriage as a life-long journey together, which means loving your partner’s positive qualities rather than dwelling on their negative qualities.

Catherine also helps her clients develop better conflict-resolution skills to effectively handle life’s inevitable stressors.  Catherine understands that marriage isn’t easy.  It takes love, trust, and commitment to make it work.  Whether you think your marriage conflicts are minor and you just need a little help getting over a bump in the road or you’re feeling like you’re “just done” and on the brink of a divorce, Marriage Counseling can help you feel that spark you once had when you first got married!

In addition to her work as a Marriage Counselor, Catherine also enjoys counseling adults dealing with anxiety, depression, and various types of trauma.  As an Anxiety Counselor, she frequently uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), an Evidence-Based approach for treating anxiety and related symptoms.  For treating Trauma, Catherine relies on her extensive training (Level I and Level II Certified) in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).

Catherine’s counseling approach is guided by both Rogerian and Gestalt frameworks. She provides Marriage Counseling and Individual Counseling at our Main Office in Cape Girardeau, MO.
